The Rawlins Fire Department provides a full range of services to the community it serves and the surrounding county of Carbon. These services include:

  • Fire Suppression: Full fire suppression capability in commercial and residential structures, vehicle and urban interface operations. Fire department personnel, including paid and volunteer, are fully trained under Wyoming State and NFPA standards in such areas as ICS, Fire Officer I, II, III, Firefighter I, II and FAO.
  • Rescue: Several department members are certified in high angle and confined space rescue operations. All related equipment is transportable and available as needed for the whole of Carbon County. We operate a heavy rescue apparatus for vehicle extrication and provide coverage for a 60 mile radius around the city of Rawlins.
  • Hazardous Materials: Full Level A response capabilities available for response within the city of Rawlins and the whole of Carbon County. Fire department personnel hold a wide variety of hazardous materials certifications ranging from HAZMAT Awareness to Technician and Incident Commander.
  • Training: Fire department personnel train a minimum of 36 hours annually per individual, with several live training scenarios in many areas. Located at Fire Station No. 2 is a state of the art Training Center utilized to conduct live fire training, confined space and rope rescue operations, extrication, smoke house evolutions and various other drills.   • Fire Safety Inspections: Paid fire department personnel conduct semi-annual inspections and pre-plan maintenance of all public access structures within the city.
  • Fire Hydrant Maintenance: Paid fire department personnel conduct semi-annual inspections of approximately 500 hydrants within the city complete with flow testing and physical maintenance.
  • Fire Prevention & Public Education: The Fire Department offers a variety of fire prevention and public education programs for people of all ages. Some of the programs include a traveling fire safety house, smoke detector program, annual firehouse coloring contest, career days at the High School, monthly club presentations and information fairs, as well as full involvement throughout National Fire Prevention Week.
  • Chimney Brush Program: This program was started to aid in reducing the number of chimney fires that occur in the city. Brushes and rods can be checked out free of charge for chimney cleaning purposes. Information may also be provided to the community on proper cleaning techniques.
  • Burn Relief Fund: This is a fund established by volunteer fundraising activities designed to provide early relief for victims of structure fires.
  • Mutual Aid: The Rawlins Fire Department is currently working on a mutual aid agreement county wide with several other departments and agencies to provide thorough joint response capabilities to the county of Carbon.
  • Annual Fireworks Display & Other Events: The Department provides manpower for the setup, display, cleanup and fire suppression standby during the annual city fireworks show and various other community events.
