Recycling Center |

In 1991, City personnel worked with the League of Women voters and other concerned citizens
to start a recycling operation. At the time, the center was operated by ARK industries out of
Laramie. In late 1994, ARK turned the operation of the center over to the City of Rawlins. Since
that time, the recycling efforts have increased and expanded to the point that the City ships
approximately 150 tons of recyclable materials a year through this facility. In addition, the
landfill/balefill participates in the effort by contracting for salvage of metals, composting yard
wastes, recycling lead-acid batteries, reclaiming oil, and other efforts.
The Rawlins Recycling Center, located at 1524 E. Daley, accepts aluminum cans, newspapers, magazines and catalogs, #1 and #2 plastics, clear and brown glass, steel cans, office pack paper, computer and copier paper, and corrugated cardboard. The Rawlins Recycling Center was selected as the Wyoming Recycling Center Of The Year by the Wyoming Solid Waste and Recycling Association for calendar year 2000. Every year, on arbor day, the City Parks Department uses the Recycling Center to distribute seedling trees to anyone bringing in recyclable materials. This is only a part of the City's efforts to continue its "Tree City" designation and commitment. |
