Personnel Policy Statement |
| From time to time, the City
needs to add personnel or replace individuals who have left. The City has a written personnel policy,
however, for general purposes the following procedure is followed for filling permanent positions.
Public Advertisement: In most cases, jobs will be advertised for a period of time in the local paper. If, in the opinion of the Department Head or City Manager, it would be advantageous to do so, the job may be advertised in professional and trade journals and other newspapers or publications that reach a larger or more directed readership. Applications MUST be submitted on City forms to the City Manager's Office. After the published closing date of the advertisement, the Department Head or a select review panel will review the applications and contact those that are to be interviewed. The interview panel will usually consist of at least three people with at least one person from another department and with both sexes represented, if possible. Applicants will be asked a series of questions, and depending on the job requirements may be asked to perform certain skill tests such as typing, math or other specific requirements. The panel will then rate the applicants and make a recommendation to the City Manager who has ultimate hiring authority for the City. |
