The Rawlins Fire Department...
Is a combination departemt made up of 1 Paid fire chief, 3 Paid career Captains, 5 Career Engineers and 16
volunteers consisting of officers and fire fighters. Te command structure is made up of both the Paid and Volunteer
staff and can be broken down as follows....
- The Fire Chief - An employee of the City of Rawlins serves as the Department Head. Appointed by the City
Manager. He is in charge of all deparment operations both the career and volunteer departments.
- Batalion Chief - This position is normally held by a volunteer in the department and is top in cmmand, under
the Chief, for the fire suppression and rescue operations.
- Captains - These positons are IC (incident command) for all fire and rescue operations. There are 3 Paid Captains
who are employed by the City of Rawlins. They supervise all day-to-day operations and maintenance of apparatus
and facilities.
There are 2 Volunteer Captains positions who are voted on to move into this position. Currently there is only one
person filling this position.
- Lieutenants - They are responsible for ground operations at all fire scenes and resue incidents. There is one
appointed lieutenant and one that is voted into this position. It can be held by either a paid staff or volunteer individual.
- Safty Officer - This positions is responsible for performing the duties per NFPA Standard 1521 and is appointed
by the Fire Chief of the Departent
- Career Engineers - These postions are employed by the City of Rawlins. They handle the day-to-day operations of
the department. They operate and maintain all fire apparatus and equiptment, manning the fire stations on a 24 hour
basis. They organize training for the department members, track and log all of the departments servies.
- Volunteers - They come from the local community and donate a large amount of time and effort to te department.
Our volunteers are the back bone to all fire suppression and rescue operations that the Rawlins Fire Department
takes part in.
- Arson Dog & Handler - This is a newer position with our department. They report to suspected arsons in the state of
Wyoming as well as any surrounding states if requested. They follow an intnse dialy training routine to keep their skill
