Why does my water seem different?

Crew Water Repair

A good question has come to our attention, and we would like to answer it in case others are wondering. Thank you to everyone who has called the City or reached out to us directly via social media.

As some of you have noticed, the characteristics of our City water have recently changed. In December, work began on our 20” main raw water line by City staff. At this time, we stopped using water from the springs and switched to our artesian well supply. There is more sodium in the well water, making the water softer. This can be noticed as the water may seem slick, and soap may seem hard to remove. The water also has a more mineral taste. However, there is nothing wrong with the water quality. All water is still processed through our water treatment plant. Well water usage may continue for a few months as city workers and contractors perform replacement and repairs to our woodstave pipelines and 20” main raw water line.
